Gov. Perry Presents Cognizant STEM Grant to Texas A&M

In conjunction with an announcement made by Cognizant on December 2, 2013, that it is relocating the headquarters of its principal U.S. operating company to College Station, Cognizant also announced a three-year commitment to support the BioFORCE STEM education programs of the National Center for Therapeutics Manufacturing (NCTM). Governor Rick Perry, Congressman Bill Flores, Chancellor John Sharp, and President Bowen Loftin, along with dozens of other state, community, and TAMU System dignitaries joined Gordon Coburn, president of Cognizant, to present the company’s $150,000 science, technology, engineering and mathematics grant to NCTM.

“We are proud to partner with Texas A&M University to inspire the next generation of technology leaders through robust STEM education programs,” said Coburn. Dr. Michael Pishko, NCTM Director. Dr. Pishko accepted the award and pledged “through Cognizant’s support we’ll be able to provide summer camp scholarships to economically disadvantaged students throughout the state, particularly those who haven’t traditionally pursued higher education and careers in science and engineering. We’ll also be able to support our teacher workshops, so those educators can bring what they learn at NCTM back to their classrooms.”
