Leadership
Baley Reeves
DirectorBaley Reeves joined NCTM in 2020 and has led the center since 2023. She has over 20 years of downstream processing experience and 16 years in biomanufacturing workforce training, with expertise in purification technologies, cGMP manufacturing, and process development for downstream operations. She previously held roles at BTEC where she taught course for industry leaders, regulatory agencies, and global vaccine manufacturers. Baley holds a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from Princeton University.
Patti Edgar
Assistant DirectorPatti joined NCTM as Assistant Director in 2024, supporting workforce development, partnerships, funding proposals, and project management. Her pharmaceutical industry experience includes regulatory affairs, clinical development, and project management. She has held faculty positions, developed curriculum, and provided career services in university and K-12 settings. Patti holds a B.S. in Biochemistry from Texas A&M and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from Duke University.
Michael Johanson
Associate Director, OperationsMichael Johanson has led NCTM’s upstream operations team since 2019 and has served as Associate Director for Operations since 2022. He coordinates contract training and manages upstream contract research projects. Previously, Michael coordinated Blinn College’s Biotechnology Laboratory Sciences program and developed biology course materials. He holds an M.S. in Genetics from Texas A&M University and a B.S. In Biology Education from Brigham Young University.
Logan Ardrey
Assistant Director, NCTM²Logan Ardrey is the assistant director of NCTM² located in Dallas and serves as an instructor in NCTM’s biomanufacturing training programs. He has a strong background in microbiology and previously worked in TAMU’s Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital Clinical Microbiology Lab. Logan first engaged with NCTM through the BioFORCE Summer Academy in 2014, later joining as a student worker while earning his B.S. in Biology from TAMU. He returned to NCTM as a laboratory technologist in 2021.

Daniela Alves De Oliveira
Research ScientistDaniela joined NCTM as a Research Scientist in 2023 after collaborating with the center as a postdoctoral researcher. Her expertise focuses on downstream processing and analytical characterization, with experience in upstream processing, the food industry, and academic research spanning biosensors, supercritical fluids, bioactive compounds, and protein production and purification. She holds a Ph.D. in Biological and Agricultural Engineering from Texas A&M University.
Andrew Syvyk
Senior Research ScientistAndrew Syvyk supports upstream and downstream operations at NCTM and has over 20 years of experience in transgenesis, recombinant DNA technologies, and bioinformatics. His expertise includes DNA vector design, protein expression, purification, and cell culture. Andrew holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and a master’s in Biotechnology. His research includes stem cell lines, transgenic animal models, and antiviral vaccine development.

Sharla de Frere
Administrator ISharla de Frere joined NCTM in 2025, bringing experience in financial consulting, corporate finance, and banking. She previously founded and led a financial consulting firm serving small businesses and held senior financial analyst roles at EDS and Dell, as well as credit analysis positions at Comerica Bank. She holds a BS from Trinity University and an MA and MBA from UT Austin. At NCTM, she supports accounting, business operations, and project administration.
Steven Bravo
Research Engineer IIISteven Bravo is NCTM’s equipment and instrumentation specialist, supporting research, workforce training, improvement projects, and core facility operations. He coordinates equipment access for university and external users, with particular expertise in downstream process development. Before joining NCTM in 2019, he worked in Quality Assurance for a biopharmaceutical CDMO, managing calibration and preventive maintenance. He holds a B.S. from Texas A&M University and an A.A.S. from Blinn College.
Victor “Trey” Martinez III
Research Engineer IVVictor Martinez III is an NCTM Research Engineer with 8+ years of experience in biotechnology and chemical manufacturing. He specializes in workforce training, process development, cGMP/GDocP compliance, SOPs, batch records, and applied research. With a B.S. in Microbiology from Texas A&M, Victor builds STEM talent pipelines, improves operations, and delivers quality-driven technical solutions.
Andy Nguyen
Research Engineer IIIAndy joined NCTM2 in 2025 and supports workforce development and hands-on bioprocessing training. He brings experience in tissue engineering R&D, bioprocess development, CAR-T cell therapies, nanoparticle drug delivery, protein purification, cell culture, and fermentation. Before NCTM2, he supported CDMO projects in tech transfer, scale-up, optimization, validation, and quality investigations. He holds an M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from The University of Texas at San Antonio.
Lyndsey Torrez
Laboratory Coordinator IILyndsey Torrez is NCTM’s Laboratory Coordinator and Building Proctor Liaison. He has over 15 years of experience working in and managing laboratories across Texas A&M University, including biotechnology, veterinary diagnostics, and biological engineering labs. His research experience includes cotton breeding genetics and plant pathology. Lyndsey is a member of the Texas A&M Class of 2006 and holds a B.S. in Bioenvironmental Science.
